Adventures in Hubspot with a Marketing Rookie

A marketing newby uses HubSpot to build a full marketing automation campaign

As the Office Manager at Bayshore Solutions, my day usually consists of answering a lot of phone calls, greeting guests, ordering office supplies and organizing events. Before starting at Bayshore Solutions two years ago I had been a counselor for over ten years. I knew as much about the web as the average lay person. Until very recently I didn’t know anything about marketing. I always thought it was a crazy coincidence that I would often see advertisements for shoes on unrelated web pages when I really wanted some shoes. I thought, how do the computer Gods know!?!

This past week I had an opportunity to do my own marketing campaign from start to finish. Bayshore Solutions partnered with Sam Mallikarjunan and Katharine Derum from HubSpot for a workshop educating our customers and prospects on the benefits of inbound marketing. I told our CEO, Kevin Hourigan, that I couldn’t do it. I was so intimidated. I told him he was nuts! He told me, “You can do it counselor,” so I put on my big girl pants and got to work.

Using the HubSpot inbound marketing and sales software to create my campaign was surprisingly easy. In less than a week I was able to create an email invitation, CTA (call-to-action), landing page, form and follow-up workflow essentially on my own. HubSpot is very user friendly and the support provided to me by our Channel Consultant, Adrianne Ober, was phenomenal. Something that seemed so impossible turned out to be a lot of fun. The majority of those invited responded to my campaign and we had a very successful event.

This experience has given me a new confidence in my ability to use inbound marketing to help Bayshore Solutions increase traffic and convert leads. I am working on my HubSpot certification now and hope to learn more about the different functionalities. I have learned the importance of meeting prospects where they are in the buyer’s journey and providing them with relevant information to attract new traffic, convert leads, close sales, and delight our customers. From counselor to marketer in one week. If I can do it, so can you!
